Love & Chocolate

Who says you can’t have a wonderful date night with a sick 15 month old? Poor Jude has had a bad cold this week- runny nose, sleepless nights, but still as goofy and sweet as ever (with a little added whining). Yesterday I did some spring cleaning (the snow is melting and the sun was out- it almost felt like spring!) and then decorated a little bit for a date night in, with Jude’s help of course. He helped color some place mats for the table with his beautiful scribbles, and carried around the little broom and dust pan faithfully while I cleaned. He even unloaded the spoons and forks from the dishwasher. He can just reach the drawer to put them in and loves going back and forth with one spoon at a time, putting it in the drawer like a big boy!
We had a candlelit dinner of salmon, cooked carrots, sauteed zucchini with lemon and pepper, and mixed rice. Yum! After Jude went to bed we lit a fire, prayed that he’d stay asleep (which he did!) and made the easiest, yummiest chocolate fondue- you just heat up 1/2 cup of half & half or heavy whipping cream over medium-low heat until hot, then take off heat and add 9 ounces of chopped chocolate (I like dark, semi-sweet, but you can use whatever kind you prefer). Let it sit a few minutes, stir, and pour into fondue pot.

We dipped tart oranges, banana, pretzels, dried cranberries, and marshmallows.
(Alisha- those are the beautiful dishes you gave us from Japan!)
We also watched a movie that we had never heard of but ended up really liking- it’s an Italian film with English subtitles called ‘The Tiger and The Snow’. I highly recommend it- funny, sweet, set in Italy- what could be better?:) Roberto Benigni from ‘Life is Beautiful’ (one of my favorite foreign films) is the main character.

How cute! We have spent many wonderful date nights in while the kiddies sleep. You guys are pros!
